Maria Kaczyńska (nee Mackiewicz) – Mr. President’s wife

Maria Kaczyńska, nee Mackiewicz is 55. She comes from Vilnius. After the war her family moved to Poland along with the first wave of displaced persons and repeatedly changed their place of residence. She studied at the Faculty of Maritime Transport of Gdańsk University, after graduation she worked as a scientist in the Maritime Institute. She met Lech Kaczyński in 1976; they married two years later and in 1980 their daughter Marta was born. After her maternity leave Ms. Maria Kaczyńska devoted herself to raising her daughter and running the household, especially that because of the political activity of her husband the latter was frequently away from home. She also worked as a freelance translator and foreign languages tutor – she knows four foreign languages and has a fluent command of English and French. She supports her husband in his political career, frequently represents him at official celebrations, and is active in charity projects. She loves French and English literature. Mr. and Mrs. Kaczyński are fond of animals. They have two dogs and two cats.
