The Pope appeared in the "papal window" a moment prior to his departure for Oświęcim, at around 3.50 pm.The Holy Father told several thousands people gathered in Franciszkańska Street in Italian: "Dear friends, I would like to thank you for your presence, friendship, and joy. May God be with you. See you in Rome, and if God so wills also in Cracow." His words were translated into Polish by Msgr. Paweł Ptasznik.
